2018 is a special year for Algamus — it’s our 25th anniversary. As we reflect on this milestone we look back at how far we have come, the relationships that have been restored, lives that have been transformed and friendships that we have created along the way.
Algamus is the oldest privately funded, gambling-specific, residential treatment facility in the United States. Our specialized gambling disorder rehab program treats gambling addiction exclusively. The existence of this gambling-specific treatment program helps clients to overcome the kind of denial that normally arises when you integrate gambling clients with those who have other substance use disorders. This specificity allows our clients to discover, experience, and practice important skills needed to achieve a successful recovery from their problem gambling.
Developing Long-Lasting Partnerships
Over the years we have developed a series of excellent partnerships including one with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), which seeks to serve as the national advocate for programs and services to assist problem gamblers and their families. Alongside this partnership we also work with Gamblers Anonymous, which is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may work through their common problem and help others to recover from a gambling problem.
A Team Dedicated to Recovery
Our 25-year milestone would not have been possible without the amazing dedication, hard work and expertise of our staff. Most of our staff members are in recovery from gambling addiction themselves and so they fully understand the unique issues surrounding gambling disorders. Our staff have the privilege to be a part of and witness firsthand the power of gambling treatment. We are proud and grateful to have been part of the more than 2,000 lives that have been transformed by Algamus Gambling Treatment Services to date.

While many thank us for saving their life or the life of a loved one, we always say that we do not save lives. Only God saves lives. He just made us a messenger and we are so grateful He does.
As our story continues to unfold, we honor our humble beginnings. Twenty five years ago, it was just me, today we have in excess of 15 staff members, all highly qualified. We also have internationally certified gambling counselors, financial pressure relief counselors and a psychiatrist/addictionologist among other experts.
